West Virginia Motor Speedway Announces McClinton Chevrolet “Fill The Hill” Family Night To Open 2023 Season & Return To Racing At The Speedplant!
(Middlebourne, WV) The 5/8’s mile has a return date! For fans and teams of the ‘Speedplant’ its time to get excited as the West Virginia Motor Speedway will officially roar back into action next spring. On Saturday April 22nd, 2023 the speedway will call on its outstanding fan base to once again, “Fill The Hill” for a great night of racing action in kicking off the 2023 season.
While many days must come and go before next year’s opening date, West Virginia Motor Speedway is excited to begin the countdown. After an unfortunate hiatus to the 2022 season, the “Speedplant” will return on April 22nd with a full card including six divisions competing in complete races for the first time since re-opening. The program will be headlined by the Super Late Model division and joined by DirtCar Modifieds, USMPA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, EDGE Hotmods and SCDRA 4Cylinders. The larger event card guarantees plenty of ‘bang for the buck’ with discount family ticket packages available in advance.
The unique part of the event for racers is the opportunity at one of the more balanced payouts of the season. For local race fans and teams the speedway has structured the season opening purse to share the wealth paying $2000 to win with $1900 for 2nd, $1800 for 3rd, $1600 for 4th, $1500 for 5th and so forth down to $400 just to start the 20 lap main event. A driver finishing 10th will earn $1000 for his efforts. In total, nearly $25,000 will be paid out to local Late Model teams.
The balanced payoff will also continue to the DirtCar Modifieds who will run for $1000 to win but $900 for 2nd, $800 for 3rd, $700 for 4th, $600 for 5th and so forth with $100 earmarked to make the A-Main. Sport Mods will compete for nearly double a weekly event in the region making $750 to win but seeing a balanced payback as well as the same for Street Stock, EDGE Hotmod and SCDRA 4Cylinder teams. “For sure our goal with the opener is to have a race in 2023 for the local teams to shine by not paying the higher to win purse that entices elevated competition and spreads the wealth to everyone who will come run with us. I think the purse will also create a very competitive field from first all the way through the field. We wanted to put out a payout that steps it down so heavily in a commitment to the regional and local teams in our area. We appreciate you and your support!” stated Cody Watson.
“We’ve tried several things to get local teams to compete with us. I truly believe that with the part shortages and economy we haven’t and in all honestly the teams haven’t gotten a fair shot the last couple years to support us. I am hopeful that in 2023 we will see an increase in participation by local/regional teams across all classes as we’ve worked hard to get the track to a great point for better racing and to help lower the risk of damages” added Watson.
“Showcasing our local teams is the focal point of this event and to do that we also need our fans to fill the hillside in support of these regional teams. When the hillside is full you can truly feel a large sense of appreciation for the teams who are making the effort to run at WVMS. Our goal is to create this good paying event that will also award starting spots in bigger events, like the Historic 100, throughout the year at the track for all classes and then move into our sanctioned only event schedule for 2023 with support divisions mixed in. We’re hopeful to have a great 2023 with hope to start the season off with a successful event and a full hillside” continued Watson.
